  • DR server not responding

I FINALLY got DR up and running in our office. Its up on 19 machines, but one of them just won't seem to work for me. I can get Vray spawner to launch correctly. It looks like its is ready to conect with the client, but never does.

In Vray message it tells me ----render host ****** failed.

on the server machine, I go into the Viz log under my Network folder and get this

not sure how it works for viz, but I was under the impression that only 10 nodes per 1 master node can be used for DR.

Thats my understanding also, I have two licenced versions. I plan on using 10 severs per client.
However, this is a separate issue. I get this this error whether I'm trying to hook up to this one single server alone, or in a group of servers.
When trying with a group, they all work except this one posted.

k, if this is the case then you may try to delete the vraydummy60.xml in 3dsmax folder of that server machine, then restart spawner, (it will fail) then copy the new vraydummy60.xml from your 3dsmax folder.
It is important to start vrayspawner after you delete the vraydummy60.xml first, or it wont work. You can also try going into 3dsmax7/network of that machine and delete the vray files in there.

I tried this after reading about it in your post "Some DR Tips" but had no luck.
It really has me stumped as this is the only sever on the network that can't connect.

strange, any unique functions to this computer's connection to the network or anything that makes it different from others?

None that I know of, but my networking experience is very limited. On every other server I installed Vray on I had some issues with firewalls, but those were all taken care of. I will have to get our IT guy involved again and look at it from a network standpoint.

I'm afraid I know what he will say. Did you reboot?
Um.....maybe you just won't be able to use that machine.

              imressive eh?

We did have a similar thing way back, and at the time, I didn't know how to solve it so we never bothered with DR. However, recently we have gone trhough Morbid's point about deletingan xml file etc. This clears it up without a problem.

Have you definately definately 100% totally done exactly what he suggests? My only tip is to try again.
                    Kind Regards,

You might try uninstalling and reinstalling Viz... Fixes many ills.

                        I'm using VIZ 2005.
I've modified all files to work with viz rather than Max as threads on this forum suggest. It worked on 18 of 19 machines but this one has me stumped.
About re-installing it, I just installed it yesterday so I don't think it should have problems. ???
@Tricky, yes I followed Mrobids steps exactly, and tried it twice, I guess three times won't hurt.

                          Bret,

I had the same problem with two of my servers. I followed Morbids steps without success until I rebooted the servers afterwards which solved it for me. Also, have you tried replacing all the DR associated files on the bad server with ones from a good server?
