  • Reflection full white in viewport

I think this was already discussed, and pretty sure solved, but my viewports still show my materials very reflective in viewports on 2023. I'm using full white reflections as it was suggested by pros but then I have to turn it off to adjust my texture size and orientation and sooo many times I forget to turn it back on before rendering.

Forum won't let me post if I don't upload a photo. So here's a screen cap of my wood material with full white refl.

Vray materials generally look terrible in the viewport. If I need something to look at certain way in the viewport I use a Shell material and then use a Max material for the preview and the Vray material for the render.

Yeah, but seems there's something strange happening. Like some materials don't look like that (full reflection). Will investigate.

are you using any tonemapping in the viewports?

I don't even bother with Viewport materials, it never looks like it should and slows down everything by a lot. Flat shaded, all the way.

Just out of curiosity, why do people bother with how it looks in the viewport? It doesn't represent how it's going to be rendered, is it?

You mean "flat color" option? I never even changed default shader since it was ok and scene is easier to look at. I don't use it to see materials but to adjust texture sizes and orientation.

Yes exactly, for the reason you mention flat color is perfect and imho very easy to use for texture size/orientation/camera setup etc. Plus I find it faster than the other modes. For modelling I go into clay mode as it's easy to see normal mistakes or smoothing. These are the only 2 modes I switch between, bound to shortcuts.
