I would take the Vray renderer in XSI in any form...my preference would be for it to look like it does in MAX....and not have it implimented like mental ray.
With version 6, the SDK access to our entire suite of rendering interfaces including the render tree, shader balls and interactive render region can all be easily accessed. Studios interested in using rendering packages such as Renderman or Brazil will have the capability of integrating these tools into XSI.
Yeah. I just bought xsi. instead of upgrading max. Though I think MR is really nice in xsi I longing for vray in it and often have to export to max just for this sake.
Likewise - it'd mean our studio could actually use motion blur...
What's wrong with Mr Moblur, Jo?
Rapidray, or whatever the name, seemed a nice thing to me, and would give supremely fast results here...
Sure the scale of my tests was smaller than a studio, but nevertheless...
Would you care to elaborate on it? I'm very curious...
It's strictly a speed issue. Quality has always been good with MoBlur in MR. It's just too slow to use unless you have a looong production schedule or a large and fast renderfarm.
Err, yes, it's as slow as most other renderers in 3d moblur calculated with the scanlani+raytracing, but it gets a LOT faster when used in rapidray mode, where the tracer creates triangles on the fly based on user settings and allows for geometric detail to adapt to the moblur, rather than the normal way which is the opposite.
Tbh I don't use XSI in here so I'm not sure how they use it - their glossy reflections and area lights tend to slow them down enough without use motion blur it seems.
