    "TRGraphics WROTE:

I'm all for a dongle if it will help stop the 3rd world piracy and dirt cheap rates we have to compete against. But, I wonder how long before it is cracked just like the rest.

I thought they had built into vray a problem with flashing on animations if you tried to use an illegal version? "

I think what you wote is insulting, im from Panama (3rd world as you mentioned) and i have all my softwares legalized and also i have to compete with illegal users here, so dont generalize because you are on a 1st world country who by the way are the persosn that made the cracked versions first.

im happy too about the dongle system but i need to know if theres going to be a way to distribute this on my country because the only software company here in panama are microsoft an autodesk.

relax man. if you dont think that generalization rings true, then your head is stuck in the sand.

Though to be honest, back when max used a dongle, it was just as cracked as it is now.

Percy, I think the term '3rd world ' part gets people going... but you are completely right.

So, we may be able to use a dongle we already have? I have Fusion and of course the dongle that comes along with it (also locks my SpeedSix plugins) and it would be great if I could just use that one for all the programs...

No. It may be a dongle from the same manufacturer, but you won't be able to use one dongle for multiple dongle-controlled software packages.

              Dongle = convinience!

When will we, the users, get them?

I agree that dongles are not stopping crackers. I have licensed version of 3dsmax since my 3d studio VIZ 2 version. This version was using a dongle and I can remember that a friend was using it without any restrictions... and without the dongle....

What I realy think is that a dongle system rather than proctect Vray license would emulate the cracker scene and would be a challenge for thoose guys. I realy doubt it would stop hackers, and its more to me a waste of time.

I don't see of the dongle to be a protection against crackers. Whatever protection you put on your soft it seems just a small matter of time before it's cracked. No effective way to stop them ...

This dongle thing does helps a lot of the users that own a license to work with it in a more flexible way! I think it's a feature that will make it possible to transfer a license very easily. Very convenient for workfloors where lots of people/computer come and go.

                  I like the idea!

Any protection system is going to be cracked sooner or later and this was certainly not the most important reason to choose the dongles. Ease of use and license portability were our main concerns.

Because it has other issues that need to be addressed first, mostly having to do with the new protection scheme (dongles).

So once the dongle thing is taken care of we will see another point release?

like vlado said , we gonna get the dongle from our local reseller and they may take some time in countries like Barbados or Israel or other countries that don't have a local reseller yet.
so i think its gonna take some time...

So, if the dongle fails, do we have to purchase a new one, or will it be replaced free of charge (including shipping costs)? How much do they cost? Does Chaos need the defective one before a replacement can be issued? How long will said "grace period" be?

nothing wrong with the way max works currently, if you dont mind lugging your computer around with you whereever you go.

Ugh, does this mean it is going to take a long time to deploy the next point release of Vray? I, too, am interested in Frances's questions.

I really need the render elements that work like Max's for the project I am about to start!

These "protection schemes" usually end up being a big imposition for honest users like myself and a minor irritant to professional hackers. Exactly who is my local Vray distributer in Southeastern Virginia? Radio Shack?
