  • saved map for reflections

I don't know if this is something that is possible but this is what usually happens to me: I get a plan (archi) and work in. The shell is usually pretty stable and doesn't change. The details change. I usually model in place and the go to isolation mode for the fine tuning and poly modeling then I unhide everything and test render. Now I already have the background it has not changed, I may have not changed lights in a while but I have to re-render everthing and it takes time but all I want is the new cabinet or to see a revamp of my whatever say bumpy glass material. I even have a saved irr map before I created this cabinet. But more than calc'ing the irr map I would like to not have to render whole scene (I mean the room I am rendering regions at this point).

Basically what I am asking is this. I have a room rendered and modeled and it's done. Last minute the designer wants a vase on the table, is there anyway now or in the future to just render that vase using the existing lightin reflections everything. And not just for final images but for test renderings as well/

    Thank you and good night.

Lately for testing local objects in a larger scene I've been using the VRaySphereFade atmospheric plugin that Vlado demonstrated and linked to in the manual under the rendering moving objects in an animation example. To add the object into an image you'd have to go through the comp'ing process that he demonstrates, but I think it's pretty slick.

      You can also:

      1. Set to not save final render, if your using LC for secondary set to "none" , set to use saved imap and hit render. This will load the saved map in to memory pretty quickly.

      2. Turn the LC on, set the primary to "incremental add to current map" and turn on auto save and set the path then render a region including the new item and anything affected by it's GI or shadows.

      3. Finally turn on save final render turn off LC and set it to use the new saved map.

A few steps but the total render time will be much less. I have done it a few times and it has worked pretty well, there will be some artifacts where the new object casts gi shadows but it will itself be lit correctly. You can combine steps 2 & 3 and still save quite a bit of time.
