  • how to use the hdr blending tool

i am sorry for this stupid question.
i want to blend some ppt rendered hdr images with the tool vlado once posted (blending.exe) but can't get it running.
i just see a dos window opening and closing, no matter if i start it by klicking on it or from the dos commandline.
do i have to put the dll somewhere special?

You need to run this from the command line. Go to the Start menu > Run..., type "cmd" without the quotes and press Enter. This opens a comand prompt. Change the current drive and folder to the drive and folder where you put the blendimg executable and run blendimg without parameters. It will print out a short usage note and some example commands:

    Best regards,

wow vlado u are fast - thx its working!!!

i mailed you about a ppt/lc bug(?) (black rendering on one machine,lc building reverts with material warnings and turns out black)
i just noticed that i would have to raise the subdivs for cleaner output which means i need that machine working, can you help me with that?

will the blending tool be available in future releases?
Or is it something that we have to specifically request?

It will be in the "Tools" download on the site, similar to other V-Ray related tools.

            Best regards,

I went to the "Tools" area and Blendimg is not there. Is this something that is coming in the future or are you about to post it to the "Tools" section?

As I said, it will be there, but for the time being, this is the link:

I originally used it to blend a number of images generated with photon mapping, since the entire photon map did not fit in the RAM of my machine back then. So I simply rendered 300 hdr images with photon mapping and "Time-independent" turned off in the DMC sampler so that photons would end up in different places for each frame. Then I used blendimg to combine the 300 images into a single image.

Of course, it is not a very practical approach for everyday scenes... but still, it is interesting that this image cannot be produced by an unbiased renderer (it contains caustics from a nearly point light source seen through glass and mirrors).

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado
