Does anyone know any good render settings to stop Onyx trees which are high ploy trees with lots and lots of leaves so that they dont flicker in animation. Im rendering out at 720 by 480 and using adaptive QMC at 3 and 6. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Onyx leaf strangness
I was working Oynx awhile back and found that one or two of the leaves would do random cartwheels. It looked like flickering from a distance but was actually the leaves spinning around in an odd way.
It wasn't a bit enough problem for me to struggle through a solution.
It might or might not help knowing that the leaves can sometimes go a bit mental.

Antialiasing
Adaptive subdivision: min: 0 max: 2
Threshold: 0.01
Qmc sampler
Noise threshold 0.003 or 0.002
That pretty much is what we use when dealing with flickering trees.
Another solution is rendering at twice the frame size. It helps when trying to get rid of noise.
Adam's comments make me think that sometimes u can find overlapped faces on some leaves which might cause the flickering too... That won't be solved unless u try and delete the offending leaves. My Youtube VFX Channel - http://www.youtube.com/panthon
