  • Is there a Instance to Proxy replacement script?

This is probably a dumn question, but is there a script that scans a scene for instances, then builds a vrayProxy of one and replaces all the instances with the proxy?

It would be useful where scenes have been built with instances but now require optimisation..... or would turning on dynamic memory have the same effect without the need to create proxies?

    Cheers
    Pat.

It will be similar, yes, but it will work for the entire scene, which may be unnecessary.

To answer you question, there is a maxscript function (instanceReplace) that allows you to replace instances of one object with instances of another one.

I have wrote a script that does that, for single and group objects.
Here is a link to it http://www.4arq.net/stuff/4ArqScripts.rar

I didn't have time to do some documentation for it, but for groups all the options should be on, except for the file options. Also since we work with large objects that crash max when attaching, there is no undo, so it doesn't use lots of memory. PLEASE SAVE YOUR WORK BEFORE RUNNING THE SCRIPT.

        Daniel,
The link doesn't work. Is there a chance to upload the script again?
