We cannot guarantee anything in that regard. The compilers will typically produce slightly different floating-point code between platforms. E.g. on 32-bit platforms the code uses 80-bit floating point calculations for intermediate results; on 64-bit platforms the generated code uses 64 bits and sometimes even 32 bits for intermediate calculations, even though the 64-bit processors do support the 80-bit floating point calculations too. Actually this was one of the reasons for the delay of rc3 - some calculations were carried out at lower precision than we were expecting and this lead to artifacts in the rendering, which we did not discover until some of the final tests.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
    But why ???

Did you plan to correct this ???

And how does the install works in x64 without dongle ???

    Best reagards...

Continue, you do a great job...

Like I said, the issues we were having should have been corrected already.

Read my post in the Announcements section. Basically the installer lets you choose between hardware key (dongle) or software license key.

      Best regards,

Mmmm. Looks like we will be delaying the install of max9 and vray64 bit then.

          How annoying.
          Kind Regards,

Well, I don't think backburner allows you to do mixed 32/64-bit rendering in any case - this is because a scene that renders fine on 64-bit may not render at all on 32-bit because it runs out of RAM.

umm...is it autodesk's fault you dont have all your machines fully 64bit compatible? Im really looking forward to going fully 64bit on everything we use, but I know we need some software and maybe some hardware upgrades. Nobody's fault we're not ready but our own.

So what inspired the comment about your subscriptions?

I was annoyed with myself for paying subscription licenses when I can't upgrade to the full potential of Max (i.e. the 64bit version) as we have some machines that are 32bit and some that are 64bit. To upgrade to max9 32bit on 20 machines would seem quite a labourious (that's a weird spelling!) task to me. I had wrongly assumed that we could quite happily mix 32bit and 64bit machines together on our farm, but Vlado's comments appear to suggest otherwise.

Is that a good enough explanation for you?

It may well be worth a more visible (stickie?) warning to other users that there may be issues with mixed farms, otherwise many hours may be wasted on getting something to function that was never meant to be.[/quote]
