i have an idea for UI simplification:

you should give each vray render-setting a color that changes from green to red depending on its useful range.

for example if a beginner sets LC samples to 10
this number will turn red indicating that this setting is unusual and may cause errors.
    Reflect, repent and reboot.
    Order shall return.

The amount of samples is tied to the complexity of the scene though so it would be quite difficult to say what value is unusual - you might use a few thousand samples on a flythrough or a few hundred on a still for example.

I had a vray scripted plugin material that did that, but never updated it to 1.5.
It's of course only orientative, as John said, it's nigh impossible to know precisely what will happen in the render.

As for the LC, there's a calculator in my script pack which allows you to express the sample size in pixels, and the amount of samples as shading rate, both of which are tied to the image size.
This way you'll know that the relative detail will remain constant across different renders (a shading rate of 3 will always be a shading rate of 3, ie. 3 times the samples compared to the image MPixels, and the same happens for sample size: a sample size of 5 pixels will remain 5 pixels be the image 100x100 or 10000x10000 pixels.).

          don't simplify the UI!

instead, make it more complicated... so new users will have higher learning curve.... less competition for me

For starters take all of the labels off the drop down menus and spinners - legit users get a punch card with the labels that they hold over their monitor so they know whats what.

will they come at different resolutions, or all users will have to work at the same one?

We're only allowed to work with 2.2 calibrated 24" widescreen flat panels from now on

                          Hello Vlado,

Any info about "More light types (mesh/disc/cylinder etc) "...

Here we've got many problem with vraylightMtl (mainly splotchy renders).

                          Best regards...

In SP2, you can partially work around this by mapping a rectangle light (e.g. with a disc texture); of course this only works for planar shapes. We are working on other light types for the next update though.

                            Best regards,
                            Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.
