              • Sandybridge is definetely going to be a life saver for this year, cheaper processors and motherboards, excellent overclocking...

Sandykoufax, can you please let us know the cost of the system and if possible is there any chance you can try to get some overclocking done and post the results?

                Comment

                • In Korea, somewhat expensive.
the prices are; (all inc. VAT10%)
                  CPU : i7 2600 $341
                  M/B : Biostar TP67XE $153
                  RAM: A-DATA 4GB x 4 $190
                  SSD: Intel G2 120G $258

Currently I have no plan to overclock, because it's too hot (+70degree C at full load) with stock cooler.
Maybe other guys will post their result.
If you wanna overclock, you'd better choose 2500K or 2600K.

                  • very interesting to see that the cheapo i7 2600 renders the scene in 61.2s and the dual six core L5640 renders it in 41.7s. I just ordered 5 Vostro 460 Mini Tower computers from Dell for a total of $4,774, all with the i7 2600's and 8Gb ram. Thats gonna be a lot of bang for the buck !

                      • I received an email after the new year from a business rep at Dell (whom I had dealt with before) offering 35% discount off any order I placed before end of Jan (here in Canada). I figure I will sell 7or 8 of my old quad core machines to pay for these new i7's

                            • Could anyone do a 2600k or 2700k overclocked? Would also be good to see times for a Intel Core i7 3930K machine.

It's an i7 2600k on an Asus P8P67 Pro MB, overclocked using the one-click AI Suite Auto Tuning "Fast" mode (as opposed to "Extreme"). Get's it up to 4.4 ghz while rendering (instead of standard 3.8ghz).
