does anyone have a hint on how to deal with coplaner geometry (i.e. settings)?

Set your secondary ray bias (in the v-ray global switches) to greater than 0. Usually .001 or .002 will suffice. Bear in mind if the coplanar geometry has different materials, you're still going to have issues with v-ray not knowing which one to choose.

you can also run the STL check within max, it used to work quite well but im not sure how well it works now

Yeah - run STL then be prepared to weld vertices like crazy at a low weld threshold and probably some remodeling around doorways. Really will cut down on rendering times too.

i remembered when i got my free kohler (forgive the spelling) cd i was happy, then when i saw the crappy models with about 50% of the faces in random order were flipped i sure was let down
