Is there a way to exclude opacity from GI and shadow calculations?

I was hoping that using a GI override material, with a non opacity material for GI would help speed up things. But it's not working. Am i thinking the right way, i don't care if the shadows or GI are a little incorrect if it renders faster.

Not sure if you have seen my posts, but make sure to turn the bitmap blur to 0.001 and the filter to off for the opacity maps. That will help the render times greatly.

Oh yeah, i've seen it when i was searching for a solution yesterday. It actually made xfrogs usable, and not only that, i think they actually look better without the halo effect. But still, it's slower than pure geometry, so i was wondering...

Yeah definitly, looks way better. Not to mention the rendertime boost.

I vaguely remember Vlado talking about a clip map... wonder if thats still on the books... Vlado??
