  • Tool for removing duplicate materials

    Hello guys,

I was looking for a tool that could remove and combine duplicate materials into one material instead of 6 of each. I came across a tool/plugin named "optimat" wich was for max4 but doenst work anymore.

I would like to ask if anybody would know of a tool/plugin/script that does that precise thing for 3dmax9.

    Witk kind regards,

    Niels

You tried the utilities in the material editor? I have not used them but there maybe a slim chance it actually does what it says on the box.

It has instance duplicate maps, clean multimaterials etc.

I don't know of such script (sorry)... but finally i know WHY it happened (after giving me hours of headache)

3dsmax merge object tool is buggy. When asked for 'use merged material' or 'use scene material', don't ever ever use the 'apply to all duplicates'... IT'S A F****ING TRAP.

i'm using clean max9. I dunno if the current SP clears this bug.

what does the new material become - a blank standard or vray material? Does it change it to the a specified material?
Or do you then have to go select each object and reassign the material?

                      TIA,
