Ok.. I've done a search on this forum and on some script sites and on google and can't find a quick answer to what I am looking for.

Is there a way in max or with a script out there (for max 9) that allows you to collapse multiple objects into one object and creates a multi-sub object material? A have some cars I'm trying to create Vrayproxies of.

The collapse utility in max doesn't seem to maintain the materials and if you select one object and use the "attach list" funtion to select all the objects I want to collapse into one mesh, max keeps crashing saying that it runs out of memory. And I'm only talking about 164 objects that total 267,000 polys.. so nothing crazy here.

I'm able to get it to work if I just select a few objects at a time with each collapse.. and saving between each one, but this is a pain.

    Thanks..

I did find that script but I saw that it was written in 2000 for max 3. I tend not to mess with scripts that old considering they probably arn't going to work at all or very well with newer versions.

I went ahead and downloaded it and tried it. The script ran... but doesn't seem to actually work. After running the script and hitting "DO COLLAPSE", there is no result.

Convert your first object to an edit poly. Attach by list, select all, and use the "Match Material IDs to Material" and "Condense Material and IDs" options.

Best tool for what you want to do is a script from Neil Blevins called "AttachSelectedObjects" ... Its a great script, it'll match / condense materials and won't give the same memory problems as the regular attach command.

Grab his pack of scripts and unzip em to your max folder. http://www.neilblevins.com/soulburns...ction_v038.zip

When you're done, if you can take a moment go ahead and add your comments about the script / rank it at http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/attachselectedobjects

Well.. I finally got it... I think either there was a problem with the first car I was working on (either a corrupt or null object that max didn't like), or it was a problem with some objects being instanced. I had to collapse just a few objects at a time (saving between each collapse) until I finally got that car collapsed.

But all the other cars worked fine without incident.

Thanks... If I have another problem like this I will try Neil's script.
