  • no light on mtlwrapper

This is the second time this happens to me and it is drving me crazy insane... I create a new mtlwrapper and then add a lightmtl as the base, crank up the GI so this becomes my light source with nice shadows, etc.

The problem is that in this max file I can see that light IS being generated but the damn material looks flat, I mean there is no light source or anything, it is a dull shade of grey. I then changed the layer to a simple lightmtl and nothing, dull. I made up a new max box and applied the material and nothing.

So I know it has something to do with some setting in Max or Vray...

Does anyone know how to fix it???

    Many thnaks in advance

Set your wrapper mat back to defaut, 1 for generate and receive GI, and increase your vrayLightMat above 1, try 10.
You can then use the light mat mutiplier to get the brightness of the light in the render and then if you need more light pumped into the scene increase the generate GI mutiplier in the wrapper override.

That's what a vray light material is. It gives you a constant colour value which is not affected by light or shadow.

The VRayLight material at the moment does not work so well as a light source to illuminate a scene. It works well to make objects glow. For SP3 there will be new options that enable the VRayLight material to be used as a light source and a new mesh light option for the VRayLight for even more control.
