to do cool glass in vray is very easy

you must only add fresnel reflection at pleasure (not really at pleasure, try out)

in the linked render there is good lighting too, in this case I think the most realistic results are given using HDR

      LOL

My problem is not creating a cool glass but having the fog like volume AND the totally transparent base part with a different color.

The image you see is a photo and not a render

      Thanks

I think (bercon)gradient in refraction slot would do the trick. Thats so thin glass there is no point using fog color option thingy.

I think giving the inside polys a material with the desired color in the refraction slot should do the trick.

if you unwrap the glass (and if you do it with a lathed spline, the unwrapping should be simple) you can use a gradient map to "tint" the refraction of the inner side.

I don't suggest to use different material with different Mat IDs because I think you could have some strange raytrace results.

                  I've not understood your problem

I think the best result are with unwrapping as bardo say, because of the round shape of the colorchange line.

with unwrap you can paint your glass in any way you want

I think the most realistic way would be to create the model in two parts. An outer part with a clear glass material and an inner part with a colour in the 'fog color'. Overlap the two parts slightly so there are no coinsident faces.

                    Quick test...

woups, it seems egz glass DOES work in sp3. I get scripterrors but it seems to render correctly anyways...
