      Hi flipside.

      Interpolation determines how much smoothing is done between the samples. Subdivs determine the individual sample quality. If your samples are close to each other you will not see much change by changing the interpolation value.

      This is an image from VRay.info with a usual interpolation value, around 20-30 I guess (this is irradiance map, not glossy, but same principle):
