    Hi Together.
In some test renderings I found a way of lighting my scene with hdr and freedirect so I can acchieve exactly this result I want with high range of flexibility.
Playing around with the two ways of LWF I found that the max way and the Vray LWF end up in exactly the same result.
But way is the Vray LWF checkbox mentioned as following in the vray help files:
"...Note that this option is intended to be used only for quickly converting old scenes which are not set up with proper linear workflow in mind. This option is not a replacement for proper linear workflow...."
What is the difference to a "proper" workflow and why isnt this workflow proper "enough"?
    Thank you Stefan

I suppose it is because it only works with VRayMtl materials and it is better to have all the settings setup correctly for your workflow than let VRay guess what's best for you.

        Hi Daniel.
Isnt it common what vray does in background with this "magic" checkbox?
        Thank you, Stefan

Do you mean, do many users use this check box instead of the settings in Max/VRay? I don't know. That check box was only intoduced quite recently so anyone who was using LWF before that will probably prefer to have everything set correctly in Max and Vray. I know I do.

              Hi 3D Betrieb,

this post is old but I think I have found out your problem. You are probably using the Vray Frame buffer so you need to specify gamma 2.2 in the vray colormapping. This will burn the gamma correction in the render. So to counteract this you might want to set the renderoutput to gamma 1 in the gamma & lut tab. You wouldn't need any of those changes if you use the max frame buffer.

                Hi Giacomo,
                thank you for your answer.
We have a proper LWF for two years now and we did it exactly the way you wrote
For now the probs with LWF are gone!
                Have a nice day,
                Stefan
