  • Soap with loofah

    Hi all,

I am trying to render a block of soap with loofah inside and does not really know how to approach this challenge. Naturally I could not think of a better place to ask for advice.

    Thanks

I think it's a dried up ocean creature.

GyroHip, do you have a photo to show us exactly wht you're trying to get?

        Loofah

J-Bug is correct, basically it is a type of sponse that you sometimes find within soap which acts as an exfoliator.

Sorry, no pics handy and no digital camera to take a pic of the soap I have, but I will try to find a existing photo.

        Thanks

How real does it have to look? I did this one by lofting the "star" shape and the used3d displacement to get the texture.

nice, fix the ground and it'll look better.

also, add some noise to vary the dmimensions of the loofa. sponges aren't perfect cylinder.

But probabely the question was about how to render that loofah inside a whole block of soap, no?

I think you should use blurry refraction for the soap material and it will look ok.

I'll do a little test here.

:P Just a proof of concept, hardly intended it to be a piece of art...

Missed the part about "inside a block of soap"

                        Loofah

Rerender, it looks pretty good and closely resembles the type of loofah one would use to wash yourself. However the loofah normaly used within the soap is a lot more irregular in shape. I wil really try to get a pic.

Flipside your soap is looking great. What is your render times like and would you mind sharing your material settings?

                        Thanks

                          soap mat:

I had AA set to simple two level, 1/4.
                          Rendertime was 14mins on P3-800Mhz

Lighting is just skylight, refractive GI caustics turned on.

Kitchen.hdr for reflections/refractions in the vray override slot.

                          That's all!

I just played with the material colors untill it looked right, there is no logic behind it...

                          regards,

                          flipside

As is the way of Hon Solo , the elusive octa-loofah has been imprissoned for eternity. Never to dry up as all loofahs dream to do one day. Somewhere, in a gallaxy far far away, there is a brave soul who will choose to release the octa-loofah from it's captors eternal gaze....
