I have been reading up on this thread over at spiraloid and applying the techniques to Vray.

Appart from being a great thread to learn from I thought it might prompt some cool work outof Vray from you guys.
When I make a displacement map from the difference between some lowrez and highrez geometry, the displacement map is so accurate that it renders each face of the highrez model clearly. These in a normal render of course would be 'smoothed' over by their smoothing groups.
Is there a way to generate a displacement map like these that somehow reflects the highrez geometry's smoothing groups as well? I think normal maps reflect the smoothing groups but displacement maps don't.
Very interesting topic of discussion anyway.
