  • Light Flicker

Can anyone tell me why my lighting is flicker in an animation.

I calced out an irradiance map every 10th frame using Incremental add
and then reused the map and I get this flickering.

Here is an a short piece of it, Its a divx file.
    http://www.corey-butler.com/Bag_End_Flicker.avi

And I also saved out an Photon Map and reused that also.

    Here are my GI settings

    Thanks

my guess is that u did not use vray lights with saved with imap option. the shadows from the vray lights are whats probably causing the flicker, you could up their samples (18+) but you'll never get rid of the flickering 100% since the vray light's shadow is computed every frame instead of being fixed if u used saved with imap option.

I think you will find, if you put your hand in your pocket and bought Vray, it wont flicker.
its nothing to do with the Imap, its a bug written into the program so when you do an animaition every frame is slightly different ...... lighter.....darker.....lighter darker.....so in affect your animation is no good.
.. now if you turn GI off and do the same render...... and it still flickers ..
oops.....This is an official Vray forum not a Warez forum.

I wish it was that easy.

My company is cool enough to let me use my Max license at home so when I transfer the license home the Vray code goes with it.

I have a purchased license well actually my company but none the less a authoriazed user, and I am rendering on two different computers.

Could I possibly have messed something up with differnet version of the plug-in or something.

I will try and recalc some things and see if it fixes it, anyways thanks

Explain to me why a saved Imap would single him out.
if he has a good copy of vray and he saved his Imap down every 10-15nth frames and then used it for his animation ..... surely it would not flicker..... hey maybe i am wrong in which case many apologies....

i think its the wrong authorization. if you work with the same vray version on another computer you have to re-authorize it to avoid the flickering.

Natty you still dont believe me huh,
I understand people just telling it like it is and the symptoms may seem like a crack user.
I may not be the best user but not a crack user.

There are a few users here that can back me up on this, but I will prove it, you say crack users will always get flickering huh.
I just did some anis previous to this with no flickering so I will try and fix this one and repost another preview.

                  Thanks

well. we are not saying your using a hack now that you have pointed it out. we are just saying that vray is authorised on a computer basis. Even if its the sme copy of max and max serial number for max on the other computer, vray would still need a new authorisation code.
natty : when i said it would single him out i meant a saved irradiance map is supposed to be flicker free. so if there is still flickering then the irradiance map isnt the problem. his technique was good, its just the authorisation thats not good

OK, the forum police can go back to eating donuts :P

I work with cbutler and it is indeed our companies policy to let us use the portable license utility to export our licenses home to use when we are not at work. Perhaps some will remember that we both had our "official user" images in the old forum. Sure would be nice to have them back to avoid unwarranted accusation...

Wow , I'd just like to comment on the lighting. IT'S BRILLIANT

I remember your last post of this scene and I don't recall the lighting looking this great.

Could you give a little explanation?
