    also is the model 1 piece? maybe when your mapping the light material to one area its being applied to other parts of the mesh too (like the inside of the propellers)

      Just to close this thread out: it ended up being the model I bought from Turbosquid.. It was poop.. all triangles, missing faces, randomly inverted normals, etc.. I guess I just assumed Turbosquid would have some quality control when you pay $200 for a model.. I used it as a template and rebuilt the model using primatives and quads.. No problems after that!

          Incidentally, Turbosquid is very good with refunds if there are major problems with the assets, if you take the pain to document them. $200 is very expensive for a model.
