  • Loft and Displacement

    I have some walls that I built with lofts and the mapping works great! I can map a nice texture and it wraps all the geometry nicely, but how can I apply a vraydisplacemod if I don't have a UVW map? When I apply a vraydisplacemod to my loft I am not getting my displacement.

      that'll screw up the loft mapping coordinate, which makes everything map really nice.

          I might have figured it out... I need to apply real world coordinates to the displacement map. I'll get back to you on this.

            Adding an unwrap modifier shouldn't change the loft coordinates. It should only make them visible (and editable) in the UVW editor. Or am I missing something?

              It was just the first thing that popped into my head since I didn't really understand the problem. If you ad an unwrapper, you can at least get a handle on exactly what's going on.

                AFAIK, displacement doesn't work with real world coordinates, or is this now supported?

                  yes, I forgot that displacement doesn't support real world and the UVW map screws up my lofts coordinates

                    you could try ading UVW unwrap to your base model then add another UVW map and assign it with channel 2 mapping for your displacement.. dont forget to change your displacement map to channel 2 aswell.
                    if you find a bug...kill it.

                      Yes, the UV Map will definitely kill your Loft coordinates, but not the UVW Unwrap.

                      By the way, Ryan's tip about adding UVW channels is good. You can always stack them, which will definitely ensure that your Loft coordinates remain unaffected.

                              I built stone walls and used a loft, which was wonderful because the stone texture wrapped around all the corners beautifully. I guess I can try without world units... I'll do some testing.
