  • glass reflection

i am not quite sure what setting is causing the bending in the reflection on the glass panel:

    its a VRAY material:
reflection-255 with falloff map (set to parallel) in reflection channel
    refraction - 218 with IOR 1.0

That gives me the amount of reflection that i want (well, really what the client wants), but i can't get rid of the bending. if i don't use the falloff map, and use the fresnel reflections option - then the reflection pretty much disappears.

any ideas on what i am doing wrong?

You have to turn up the reflection to maximum(solid white) when you use the fresnel option for reflections. At least I do.

Try increasing the number of faces in your geometry. E.g. using a tessellation modifier.

This worked for me in the past when I had a reflections behaving wrongly - appearing to be at a different angle to the surface normal. If that makes sense.

Not sure if it was to do with the number of faces or more to do with the smoothing of the geometry - (the extra faces making the smoothing more accurate). so the smooth modifer might be worth trying too.

I'd be interested to hear if this cures your reflection problem, and also if anyone else has had unexpected results with the raytracer.

well, it turns out it had nothing to do with the material - it was the object. i applied a smooth modifier to the object and it fixed the problem.

thanks alot for the quick responses.
