  • Vray Car Paint - Share texture with nodes ?

    Heya

So I was fighting with that car paint again I quite got with it where I wanted but I got 1 problem...

    Heres the workflow...

    Automiatic UVW by mtl
    8k+texture res

    I start render,

Ram goes up to 15 GB +
It compile texure and get it down to 2 gb ram
At the end it say texture has taken 500 mb or so.

Now that is fine main workstation can render it, and once its rendering it only take 6 gb of ram.

The problem I'm facing is that render nodes dont have as much as workstation ram.

So can we have maybe a tick in the shader that, once it finish creating texture it will send it to nodes instead of asking them to do it them self ?

    Or save on network hdd?

Or is there any work around ?

    Thanx, ciao.

One work-around for now is to reduce the flake map size a bit until it fits in the RAM of the render slaves. The other is to switch to the simple filtering mode.

Saving the texture to disk is a good idea; will think about it.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Heya

I'm still in pain with this issues. Now I have 3x car paint node and boy... that takes time. Can we get at some point that option to save to HDD&share with nodes + share texture (with option to U/V tilling so its not same as other flakes) with other nodes please?

Any ETA on this tweak? Its been a year since I ask for it

If the 8k texture is so heavy on the ram, could you not make a tiled exr out of it and load it on demand during rendering, thus not requiring to hold the entire map in ram at once? maybe it doesn't work that way for carpaint material?

I cant realy render flake texture, or well I can but then I would have to map the mesh. Still an option to save to HDD would be most efficient since then my slaves dont need to waste time on compiling it -a ssuming they actually can compile it

                  Bump =D

Also can we have a bump slot for base car paint to simulate orange peal?
