  • VRay Environment Fog for clouds

How do you get some clouds that aren't flat on the top and bottom of the gizmo? They inside of the clouds look amazing, however being confined to the gizmo, they are completely flat. Is there a way to fade them off?

"Is there a way to fade them off?"

There is that kind of option.
It's called gizmo fadeout or something like that.
You can set fade distance and type.

To get nice cloud shapes, I'm usually modelling some basic clouds or creating particle clusters to get more random shaped gizmos. That way there wont be those flat areas.

Thanks LarsSon. I'll play a bit more. I forgot about gizmo fade, now I just have to find that option

I gave up on making clouds with environment fog after spending a lot of time on that.
I dont know why, but my renderings always looks better with simple photo-backplates.
If you have to do 3d clouds for flythroughs i would look at a plugin solution.
I guess what happens to light in real clouds is much more complicated then what the environment fog can do.
          Reflect, repent and reboot.
          Order shall return.
