  • Lack of Reflections

    Hi All,

After purchasing Vray advanced, I decided to dig up an old Max file a play with it, however, I'm having some issues with the lack of reflections. There would appear to be no raytracing what so ever. I have no idea what is going on and I was wondering if there is a possibility of something corrupting the file. The objects set for reflection should be the glasses on the Dining Room table (showing black) and the window glass.

I hope the image shows up. I have no idea how to do this.

    Thanks,

    Scott.

Ok, that didn't work. Could someone please explain to a dummy like me how to insert an image?

Thanks for the quick response; however, I'm just as lost. I'm not very good at this kind of thing so please be patient. Are you saying I need to locate the file on my drive using some kind of cryptic text format? I would have to admit; I'm a point and click kind of guy. For example, my file is located on my E drive under a folder called (Vray Samples ) and the image file is called (Living Room.jpg). How do I plug all of this into the sample you gave me?

        Thanks again.

        Scott.

You need to upload the image to your host web server and then just give the address

          Hope this helps

Thanks, I will look into this a little later. I need to head out for a meeting now.

Ok, I hope this works. I still need to tweak the Vray sample but I would like to get the raytracing issue resolved first.

              Thanks

What material settings do you have on the reflecting objects?
Are they standard raytrace materials? If so change them to VRay materials for better results.

Thanks for the image posting tip. With regards to the materials, the first image, rendered using Vray has the Vray materials assigned to the objects that would reflect. The second rendering is an older Max scanline image with the standard Max raytracing materials. For some reason, Vray is not raytracing anything.

                        re

Turn the reflection swatch something other than black....white is 100% reflection. Your best bet is to use vray materials unless your in need of opacity maps... see below...

You have to ask Smalerbi that, I just posted the corrected link to his image.

I used the glass material you provided a few days ago for the wine glasses on the table. It's a great material and on any other scene it works flawlessly. I can only speculate that there is something in the scene that could be causing some type of corruption or something along those lines. This scene renders as if the raytracing is turned off.

To answer your question ST, the fire is a map.

                              Thanks
