So, i tried it in the meantime...
with glossiness or Thickness set to 1.0 its not possible...
so i tweaked the settings a bit... Glossiness down and Thickness up to 300.
This was the first result... bad looking and long rendertime
To bring down rendering-time i setup photon maps
i set the Intensity of the Spot to 100.000 + inverse square fallof 1.
Anyway... the Photons going through the curtain became awfully white and the rendertime was way to high (the spot is still in the scene so you can see what i mean)
Then i switched to Vray-Light and cranked up the multipler...
I got nice photon solutions...
with rendering times much faster i played with the settings of the materials
i loaded the old vray-flesh material and tweaked it a little
this is what appeared:
So... this is better but still not good like the pic in the Tutorial
Maybe you guys can play with this scene further... more people, more variations. I have to say that the material reacts very strong to little changes - so be carefull!
...here's the scene

on first the room should be brighter and there should be more white burn on celling and walls......are there going to be some good tutorials or help for vray like for brazil or finalrender. In vray help there is no explanation "what this button do". Just some useless slogans.Luke Szeflinski

Hi lukx,
can you be a bit more positive please?
If you know fr already, the vray manual should help you enough. For some additional topics and explanations, you can find lot's of info on www.vray.info.
I also come from fr and learned almost everything in 1 or two months with the help of the above and this great forum. Can't say the same with fr... Where do you find all this great fr tut's? Never found them I think...
Also, this thread is about curtains, not on how to illuminate a room, so the overall brightness is another tweak easily made.

There is a material plug-in called backlight that can replicate some of these sort of effects at scanline speeds.
www.maxplugins.deTwo heads are better than one ...
....but some head is better than none.....

I after few hours of tweaking this scene and nothing!!! No one is trying to solve this problem? Why in vray it's so hard to get proper transparency, cause it's all about transparency! I can't get proper thicknes of this curtains so the light will come through and than burn on surface!.Luke Szeflinski

sweet but I still can't get your kind of translucent quality
I 'm guessing that your vray isn't v1.09.03i? Maybe "i" have some problems with this translucency?

Check ur colors, try with exactly the same.
I use 1.09.03g version... i dont think there is a difference about material.
BTW, its a volume curtain, with a very small thickness, i had opaque result with no volume too !
PS: plz post smaller picts
