    Well I don't know if I correctly understand what you want. I interpreted "Alpha" as - you basically want a grayscale image showing some objects or materials of your choice in white and everything else black.

    If you are speaking of premultiplied/straight Alpha then that term doesn't say anything about the look of the Alpha channel itself. The Alpha channel of an image (with Red, Green, Blue and Alpha) looks the same no matter if the image is saved as premultiplied or straight alpha. Maybe you can provide a bit more detail on what you want to do and what problems you are having with the way you are handling it now.

    PSD files work great in After Effects. You can import PSD sequences as compositions or individual layers. So PSDs works also for animation. There is also a PSD camera import plug-in for AE.
