  • hdr and exr files + alpha channel

    Hi,

I need alpha channel for post work. I haven't used linear work flow before and I would like to try it now. But I guess I have to save my images in hdr or exr format. Do I loose alpha channel in that case? I did some tests and couldn't get the alpha channel to the photoshop. I added the vrayalpha pass when exporting the exr but it didn't show up in PS either. I am now testing domelight + hdri and seems that I can't get rid of the hdri bg in post. I guess you have to get rid of the hdri bg somehow?

    Hello vermu,

Alpha channel is always exported when EXR is used.
Photoshop usually keeps the alpha into "Channels" tab - not in the "Layers" tab.
If you switch to "Channels" tab you should see - Red/Green/Blue and Alpha channels.

Another option to get rid of HDR background is to turn on "invisible" check-box into Dome-Light parameters - this way dome light will illuminate your scene and it will be invisible in the background.
