Just out of curiousity, rather than necessity...

How would you go about creating a (physically accurate) laser? Perhaps something to include in the next service pack, maybe? Unless there's a good way of doing it.

What do you want to do with it? Normally, a thin direct light with VRayEnvironmentFog should do the trick, but it may be a bit on the slow side.

we have done such a thing, it was amazing fast. we even use dispersion, see attachement, it rendered in 4min. on my new computer the scene renders only 1min 35sec.

this is one very thin light beam send through the prisma and volume env.

      cheers

hmmm, there was a benchmark scene here that had lasers bouncing around, sorry I can't find the thread...

Here is one example of laser beam created with VrayEnvironmentFog and VrayLight with Directional Parameter set to 1.
Turning Scatter GI OFF from the Fog will speed up the rendering - currently it is ON.
Scene file is created with Max 2013.

That looks perfect. The only problem I was having was that light was scattering, but I hadn't even considered the "directional" parameter.

            Thanks guys.
