Populate does look great. We played around (briefly) with Project Gelato (or whatever the heck it was called) and it had promise. Never as straightforward as it seems though!

(I seem to recall that the choice of characters/textures was severely limited)
    Kind Regards,

Some of these updates are long over due and should have been implemented years a go, especially the viewport enhancements. They seem to be fixing a lot of their mistakes such as a bloated nitrous viewport, but a good update none the less.

i like that they have finally enabled some kind of camera view pan and zoom capability. Its a pain having to switch to open gl which had the zoom function for years. I'd have to say though except for a one or two items the updates to max and maya are underwhelming.

Then you will like their latest project. Project Pinocchio. This will probably make it into max 2015 or 2016 I'm geussing
Project Pinocchio is for creating various detailed characters

2014 is a binary compatible release. So although many plugins (probably including vray) will need some changes here and there it does work right away basically.

So when is it's planned release? I have a new project gearing up that is going to need a lot of camera matching. Would love to have the perspective feature in hand by then.

Yes! I never thought it would happen. Posted about that issue in the Autodesk Uservoice forum ages ago. The suggestion got lots of support, but nothing happened - no update for 2012 and 2013 -but amazingly enough they will implement it for 2014! Seems like 3dsmax finally might be moving in the right direction.
