  • scintillating / noisy animation... help!

    hi all.

i'm doing an architectural walkthru animation, and am using very
fine noise maps for diffuse and bump maps on walls and floors.

no problem if its a still image.

but once u animate a camera in there, the grain of the noise
    starts to shimmer and scintillate.

i know u can sort of tackle that problem by enabling 'super sampling'
in the material's rollout, but it SEEMS like this only works under
the scanline renderer, and vray ignores this.

can anyone point me in the right direction to get rid of
    these scintillating artifacts?

    have you tried high AA??

    maybe adaptive min/max 1/3
or two-level (works better for fine patterns/noises) 1/4 or even 2/5
you can try fix rate at 4 or higher...

I would try them in the above order...because the rendering times will grow exponentially as use the different ones -
see if you can get away w/ adaptive first....if not try the others...

      thanks for the suggestion.

i tried decreasing the adaptive threshold from default 0.1 to 0.05.
it seemed to help a wee wee bit.

will try out your settings, although i think i might just
render those procedual noise to a bitmap and use the bitmap
instead. think that will smooth out things a whole lot.

what i'm wondering now is why can't vray use the
supersampling setting in the material rollout..

cos to bump up vray's own anti aliasing settings will affect the
whole image and not just the problematic material only.

        --OR--

Perhaps you could add a slight blur offset (+-.015) to the noise of the material itself to help decrease the flickering...
