I was wondering, is there a roadmap for the future development of vray that is posted anywhere?

I am curious because it seems like things like fur get implemented while other things that may be much more usefull such as render elements don't.

In short what is the long term outlook from a vray evolution point of view?

I couldn't agree with you more Rerender.

So I take it from your responses that you really don't give a s&@t if you get the functionality you've been requesting in the wishlist included in the next version, 3 versions from now or never.

Let me see, a little scripting and scene management and you have elements, fake speculars...hmm....might be nice sometimes but real ones are better,opacity...clip mapping with displacement does the job, material presets...vraymtl is incredibly powerful for it's simplicity, doesn't take long to know it and ofcourse the make art button...well that would be nice :P

What is valuable to me is being able to render more and more geometry, one of the worlds greatest displacement engines(which keeps getting better) and faster and cleaner GI. I am happy to let V-Ray grow and let the polish come as it will. As it stands V-Ray is very capable of production work and for me it's speed and power make up for any shortcomings.

I tend to agree w/ Rerender......fast and clean Gi is the core for me, then good/fast reflections (yeah, I'd like the fake max specualrs implemented) and good displament, which vray already has........

more geometry handling would be nice.......but's it's not too critical in what I do...and render elements, is also not too critical for me...

other then that I'm on for the ride as well

Wow Eric you got all worked up there for minute. Deep breaths....Calming down.

While I would agree with most of what you said. I would REALLY REALLY like to see elements built in ASAP. Work arounds shouldn't be necessary. Real speculars are better that fake ones, but I'd really appreciate a fake one as well. If Team V-ray can make a real reflection specular highlight render as fast as fake one...Then I'll stop asking for it.

Thank you for putting the VFB back in Vlado.

                    I am not worked up

I just don't want to see anything get in the way of V-Ray's growth in it's speed and power, if you want slow and refined there is always Brazil :P

Thanks for letting us all know where vray is right now. Fast and clean GI,
fairly fast real speculars, I'm not complaining. I just want to know where its going. Are we getting a fur modifier at the expense of something many more people want, like render elements? Why would implementing something like that necessarily make the program slower? If things are possible through "work arounds" that only means there is a more direct way of doing it that the programmers have not implemented.

Listen, I'm not flaming Vray here. Its the only GI renderer I use and I've convinced many others to BUY it. I want to know that this program has legs and development is planned into the future.

With a little reading around I've come to the conclusion that render elements are a big push currently. There have been a few posts lately that would me to believe very positive improvements in the near future.

I'm not positive but I'd imagine the fur, render primitives, and external geometry are all interrelated and based on some experience with SimCloth and the work he's done on the unlimited poly/ standalone system.

I'll put in a vote for render elements too... and I also don't think a roadmap is an unreasonable request.

However, I could see why it might be undesirable from a competitive point of view. If they lay their cards on the table, then one of the other GI renderers might try to beat them to the punch.

I'm sure they (Chaos) have an internal roadmap, but as davision said it would bad to make it public from a competition point of view....

If you had a choice between render elements or more speed would you choose the elements?
