  • Brazil or Vray

I've been thinking of witch one of these 2 renderers should i start learning. Both of them have theyr pro's and con's. It would be nice to get your comments on vray.

    pro vray:

    faster as brazil.
easy to use for interiors because the irradiance map is much easyer to use then brazils photon maps (sure vray has photon maps too).
    nice displacement function.
distributed rendering (for max 5 only at the moment)
    more node lics.

    contra vray:

    not as stable as brazil
    no floating license
the materials are in no way a competition to brazils
brazil has imho the better looking GI (yes even when direct computing is used) but for the cost of higher rendertimes.

im sure others will have more points or disagree on some of my points.

It seems that Brazil is used more in animation (blizzard and blur), when Vray is used in architectural rendering? And i have to agree that brazils renders do look somehow more beautyful compared to vray.

And how much faster is vray really when compared to brazil?

the fishes are tight connected to blur so no wonder that blur uses brazil.

on the other side vray is also used in hollywood productions like the last samurai and others.

the best thing is to try both and look what fits your personal needs best.

If you're going to list companies using brazil, you can't forget ILM who is using it in their digital mattepainting dept.

to add to the pros and cons

            vray pros
unlimited rendering over a network (not DR)
            lower price than Brazil
evolution of product seems faster than brazil

            Vray cons
Brazil has better visual feedback for camera and lights
Brazil has render elements which are handy for compositing

V-Ray has better displacement than any other renderer

V-Ray has 3d motion blur (unlike brazil)

And for non-commercial use you can install rio and have b-cams and b-lights in vray :P

....brazil has imho the better looking GI...

                  I don't think so...

The "good looking" depends on: the scene , The parameters, and so on....

.....the materials are in no way a competition to brazils .....

Why? For the poor parameter option?
Maybe Egz in the near future will develop some cool mat like the Braz one(the most impressive is the Skin one), or Fr ones(i like the Volumetric )..
                  Who know..

This is what i Think .....

                  Bye

Well I did some testing B-Cams still do, I thought the b-lights worked (I swear they used to) but I can't get them to work now. Anyways the Cam is the cool thing anyways.

How do volumetrics work in vray, are there many problems?

it's a way of simulating fog/dust in the air or other atmoshperic effects that interact w/ light....in 3d.

                            Bye

totally agree with u......i think that "better gi and mtl in brazil" is such an arbitrary opinion...i am not going to explain too much here....but brazil definitely dont have better gi...and thing does not look especially better in brazil...and i think that vraymtl is better than brazil's...at least it's more intuitive and easier to use (the biggest reason for y i use vray instead of keep on using brazil was vraymtl......not speed tho..i didn care much about speed..but now i think speed is the most important...because vray is like 10 times faster than brazil...)....plz try to learn more about vray b4 u say it produces worse images than brazil...
