could you explain that more in deep?
I need some bumps made by stiches on a leathered surface. Think about a carseat made of leather and the stiches are modeled, I need to render closeups where you can see the bump in the leather made by the stiches I thought the best would be with an ao bump made from dirtmap. I tried to use distance map and dirt map, but neither one had success.
What do you expect to happen there? Currently it works by blending the bump results from the two sub-textures (occluded and unoccluded).
Ideally the dark part of the dirt map should bump in and the white part should bump out without the need for sub textures. I understand technically why this doesn't happen, but from an artistic standpoint this would be super useful.
I dont want to use displacement, I need the bump map and I already tried to use distance map, but no success with it. Same as with dirtmap.
In mr there you can use materials as maps, if this would be possible with vray, I would find a solution, maybe with ink and paint as a converted map or so.... I will test further. If I find a solutiin I post it, thanks.

DirtMap and DistanceTexture could be both used in order to generate Bump-Effect but they must be first plugged into VrayColor2Bump or VrayNormalBump nodes.
Here is one sample: SceneFile=>DirtToBump.zip
In the example above I have used VrayColor2Bump + OutputMap to gain more control to the final effect via Color Map/Curve function.
Yeah, that's pretty cool. Is there a way to make that work with displacement? Would be cool not to have to bake out maps to do displacement in a similar way.
