  • Does Vray support dual Proc rendering?

    hello,

As a new user of Vray (soon to be received) i'd like to know if he use both processor (Dual Xeon 2.4 Ghz 1 Go ram / Windows 2k SP4) for rendering?
If yes, how can it be configured to make it work?

    Thanks for your answer!

    Regards,

Yes it is multithreaded, you don't have to do a thing, if windows sees two procs V-Ray will too

And if your using a dual xeon with HT enabled you will see 4 buckets chaseing each other all over the render. I have a Dual 2.8 Xeon here and works like a charm and like RErender said you dont have to configure anything, V-Ray will use what ever you have.

Wait a minute. Syclone1 I have dual Xeons with hyperthreading. and only have two buckets while rendering. Maybe I don't have it enabled correctly. can anyone give instructions on how to turn on hyperthreading (both in windows and in Max)? And also, if you have 4 buckets rendering, are the rendering at half the speed as two buckets, or Does HT essentially cut rend time in half?

Are you running XPpro or 2K? 2K has a 2 proc limit

wait a minute.......when I was testing finalRender I was using win2k (same comp and specs as now that I'm using vray)...but FR rendered multithreded and dual propcs automatly (4 buckets)!!

while vray only does the two procs.........so it can't be that WIN2k has that limit....otherwise how come FR still used 4 buckets?!........plus I didn't have to turn on/setup anything in the bios or anywhere else for FR to do 4 buckets....

so I wonder, if FR can use 4 buckets on a Win2k dual 2.8 ghz w/out any extra setups....why can't vray???

                        No athlon supports HT.

                        greetings, michael

edit: just open the taskmanager on your box, if there are four cpu diagrams, there will be four buckets in your image.

fR is probably just pretending to use the extra procs :P
