  • enable max default light but disable in vray?

since i got no response in the other topic:

i like working with the max default light when modeling, it lets me see surfaces and bumps easily. of course when rendered in vray, the default light messes up everything with GI and the render looks extremely solarized.

is there an easier way of disabling the default light than making a 0 value omni light and hiding/showing when rendering/modeling?

max default light? do you mean the viewport default light setting or actually placing lights in the scene for viewing objects??

the max default light is the one thats automatically on. it looks like a headlight on the viewport camera. rotate objects and the light follows.

i tried what i proposed and it turns out only deleting an omni light will re-enable the default light. if theres a light in the scene, everything goes black

i do realize this is not advanced stuff but its always something thats bothered me

uncheck default lights in the "global switches" panel of vray.

            use the viewport configuration.

why not just use the area light to model and remove it for render?

Control L is the default hotkey to toggle the viewport lighting.. also you can switch it from 1 light, to 2 lights in the viewport config...

it will be off for render time if there are any lights in the scene.. so simply add a light to the scene, and shut if off..

thanks for the help but Ctrl L or viewport config doesnt work with vray

doesnt look very "off" to me

like i said, i need to create a 0 intensity or off light EVERY render
                  thats no fun

thats a limitation of max, not vray...only way around it is to drop in a light that's turned off (can be a simple point light) or to uncheck the "default lights" option in the global rollout in the vray rendering options

or its better to say its a limitation of vray free. since this problem is addressed in the full versions.
