  • Baking normal maps to texture

I wish to bake some normal maps I have inside the bump slot of a particular shader. When I've tried baking the complete map is baked fine but the normals are not and just remain at a neutral normal colour. Should I be using vray bump to normal in the slot instead before baking or will normals not bake unless I have a high geometry equivalent that is projected onto the lower poly mesh ?

You need to bake the normals as another element, so you'd bake a complete map along with a bump normals map

Yes, I tried that already. I set up elements for diffuse (complete map), specular and normal. The diffuse was fine, the normal map was just blue (neutral colour) and the spec was black.

Did you use VRayBumpNormalsMap or VRayNormalsMap - from my experience the VRayBumpNormalsMap is what you'll want.
