  • Vray 3.0 and Transparency - Any Improvements?

Has there been any optimization to non-refractive (opacity map based) transparency rendering in Vray 3.0? This has always been the Achilles heel for us compared to both Mental Ray and Scanline in terms of speed. Vray 2.x has traditionally been orders of magnitude slower when it comes to scenes with lots of opacity mapped cards, etc. I didn't see any info on this in the Vray 3 literature so assuming nothing has been improved yet?

You're in for a bit of a treat on that one, there're a few new bits on the way.

There are some improvements in the current builds; more are coming in the next builds (I don't know if you followed the thread about the new transparency modes on the Google group). However it would still be best if you can avoid transparency altogether.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

We set up a Google group for the participants of the closed 3.0 beta a while back. You will get to see those things soon enough anyways

          Best regards,
