  • V-Ray ambient occlusion pass

    Hello

Is there any way to get an ambient occlusion pass to behave just like the amb. occlusion option under the GI settings? I cant seem to get the same results using a VrayExraTex with a Vraydirtmap.

The biggest problem is it seems like it doesn't go through glass, and having to exclude every refractive object in my scene is not really an option.

    I would appreciate any help!

    Thanks,

    Eric.

Global Illumination Ambient Occlusion is different than VrayExtraTex+VrayDirtmap since it only applies for the surfaces calculated with GI.
VrayExtraTex+VrayDirmap doesn't take into account whether the surface is calculated with direct illumination or global illumination.
Unfortunately there is no option to avoid transparent objects automatically so they must be excluded from the calculation manually.

We really need a way to exclude certain objects from Global Illumination Ambient Occlusion...I have a few objects in my scene that are getting terrible AO shading...now I have to remove GI AO all together or spend hours excluding transparent objects from the dirt map.

Objects cannot be excluded from Global Illumination Ambient Occlusion , they could only be excluded from VrayDirt map or from VrayExtraTex render element.
I could make a feature request into our system about avoiding transparent objects option in VrayDirt but I am not sure if this is going to work in every case, for example what if the scene contains refractive objects which shouldn't be excluded from the calculation?
According to the issue you are facing - would you please send us an example of the terrible AO shading along with GI-render-settings?
If you could isolate the problematic geometry and send the scene for investigation that would be great.
