I have a z820, now relegated to being a renderslave... they are nice and compact for what they are, but they run pretty damn hot AND NOISY. I know Bertrand Benoit has had a similar experience with his z820, and even had problems with faulty ram. (see comments: http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2014/6/gpu-maintenance)

I now am using something I built myself, which is what I should have done all along. It is almost completely silent and runs at about 55deg under load compared to 80 (conservative average...) for the Z820.

When building mine, I referred a lot to the cooling strategy employed by these guys in the US, maybe worth a look?? Or maybe someone else has experience with them? http://www.pugetsystems.com/nav/gene.../customize.php

Well you just jumped from a 3.5k build to a 10.5k. If you're going to those values you can get a lot of options.

About that one specifically I think the money you spend on 128gb of ram you could just spend on 32 or 64 and get the cpu above that one.

Agree with Peter, the best is for you to build it yourself or ask a friend to build and you just buy the pieces. About the cooling, as long as the case has a nice air flow design, and not like those HP, you don't even need water cooling

I have always built mine, too, but it is nice to window shop. About the water cooling... it would just be worth it to say that I have a water cooled PC

            Powersupply 50$?!

I hope its a mistake and it cost around 500$...

also if you are going up to 10k$ maybe just get a server farm of ebay with 10-20 nodes...

I built my desktop with a custom water loop. It was pretty easy and it's been totally quiet and maintenance\leak free. I run waterblocks on my GPU and CPU. Both are overclocked and run very cool and stable. Pretty nice.

I started with a custom kit and swapped out parts I felt needed upgrading such as clamps, the CPU block and the tubing. It was still cheaper than buying everything (radiator, pump, reservoir, etc) separately. Also never add anything to your water, just use distilled and get a silver coil in the line. Works great for 2 years now!

We've mostly built our own machines in the past, but I'm not sure we will again in the future. Not enough time to troubleshoot issues that always arise from systems that aren't fully tested. Yes, you will save some money, but I'd keep my eye out for a ready-built Dell machine (or similar) safe in the knowledge that if it doesn't play ball, you can get it sorted quickly.
                  Kind Regards,

I also build mine in the past but stopped. When something goes wrong you have all the trouble indentifying and replacing the broken part.
that can be quite annoying and timeconsuming. I let mine build by alternate, an online shop. They have a PC Configurator where you can
choose exactly the parts you want. They´ll build it and you can optinal order a two day stress test. Also you´ll get warranty for the system.
If a part doesn´t work in the setup, they´ll contact you with alternatives.
                    http://www.alternate.co.uk/html/conf...r/pc/page.html

Btw. The new x99 chipset for the next intel cpus that will come out in september will support 64gb ram on release and 128gb later.
So it really might be worth waiting.

Interesting idea. A colleague recently got a new Dell machine - I forget the model. Its an amazing bit of kit. Absolutely solid and puts my 'hand-made' builds to shame!

You can use Asus motherboard. Those server grade mothersboards are very different to Desktop. It might be a scary change for you. Asus ones are a lot more delicate...
