  • A few material questions..

I have a normal Max material where i use a specular, color and opacity maps. Then i used the same maps in a Vray material because I wanted a sub surface scattering effect. I tried to use the maps in a Vray material but i only could use the color map and didnt know where to put the rest? and could the default max material be mixed somehow with a vray material so that only the sub surface scattering would effect the max material?

Specular maps go into the reflection slot. If you have separate specular colour and specular level maps, they need to be combined in photoshop, or by clever mixing with mix maps and / or the colour correct plugin (or similar).
Opacity maps go in the refraction slot.
Be aware you might have to invert your opacity map depending on what you are aiming to achieve, as the white in opacity means that it is opaque, and white in refraction means full refraction/transparency.
Otherwise you can make a shellac material and set the shellac slot to be the one with a vray material with SSS, and your standard material in the other slot.
Shellacs are slow in vray though, so you might want to avoid this sollution.
