  • Texture Baking - Compensate Exposure

    Hi everyone!

I'm doing some tests baking textures on 3d model for realtime exploring.

the environment is an interior apartment, and the lighting is rig is a simple VraySun + VraySky.
In a normal render each room has its own Physical Camera with different exposure value, 'cause some rooms are washed by the sun, and others not; some rooms have smaller openings (windows.. doors..) and others larger ones.

But for texture baking I'd like to bake everything at once, because I'd like the "transition" between a room and the other is "smooth" under exposure point of view.

Does some option or tool allows to adjust exposure during texture baking?

    Thank you very much.

You can use V-Ray Exposure Control from Environment and Effects Rollout.
This tool also allows you to use the Exposure value from VRayPhysicalCam.

Yes but.. a value set for a room isn't good for another one.

Can you bake each room separately with the correct exposures?

Oh yes I can, but I was looking for an auto process. If I do it separetly I have to manage, more geometries and more textures, and to "correct" manually in photoshop the transition areas.

If there's no tools, I suppose the best is to set manually individual Planar Light for each room, so each room has its "light amount" even if the same camera exposure.

Yeah, you're either going to want to bake each room as it's own experience - or have the lighting be consistent across the home using the same exposure settings.

But at some point though, we'll be able to bake .exr textures and use them with a camera in the game engine that can adjust exposure on the fly--

Thank you Brendan for the interesting links, and thank you for the help.

At the end I've simply adjusted exposure for each room controlling single light intensity.
