  • Geometry vs Displacement

I have a lot of space that'll require a lot of that diamond plate sheet metal. Would geometry be for efficiency, or should displacement be fine?

2d displacement. use a small 2x2 grid and a different uv channel so you can keep the resolution down.

This is job for VrayPattern I think.

it'll take me a lot to purchase a plug-in like this. I have spent a ton on plugins that get dropped.

to answer your question - the geometry (simple polys) will be more efficient then displacement. However your render time will still be high, for those small fine details to alias you will need a lot of samples.
