  • matt shadow and refract problem

    hi
im having problems with a tree that is placed on a symple 2dsurface poly with the opacity of vray(refraction).
its a bit hard for me to explain but ill try
wen the tree that is not a 3d object is only 2dpicture with alpha chenel is placed on a vray matt shadow surface and i gave the matt shadow surface a green color so that ill have some color bleding . the problem is wen i render the image the conture of the tree all around it i see the color of the matt shadow surface the color of it is only around the 2dsurface of the tree.
can someone tell me whay do i get that?

if your refering to having a opacity mapped tree sitting on s surface with a vray material wrapper for matte shadow, then your screwed if your using vray material to do this. Im not sure if its a bug. more of a limitation from the way vlado explained it to me but you cant have that situation working. Once clip maps are included we should be fine

          yea dhis is the situation.
so there is no wey to solv this problem?
it works for me only wen i aplay the tree surface a simple opacity map of the max lib but wen i put refract in the matlib of v-ray i get this around the surface of the tree.

on the tests i did the render time difference between using max material(MM) with opacity mapping and the vray material(VRM) with refraction slot mapping was not that big on a normal scene. but turn on GI and the VRM really rendered faster. However there is a problem as i stated with using a VRM ontop of a plane for doing matte shadows. Seems it cant trace the alpha needed for the refraction as well as the alpha needed for the matte shadow. However from what ive been told, havent tried it as yet, the MM does not have this problem. however. as just stated, there is a render time hit for doing this.
