  • Background images using Max render tab and RT GPU

Is is possible to use a background image mapped to environment screen while having an invisible dome light with a texture? It doesn't work that way for me, or I just plain haven't figured it out. The RT GPU seems to use exactly what the viewport can/cannot see.

If I am wrong, please feel free to correct me. If not, is there anything that can be done about this? Some of the HDRIs I have, specifically Peter Guthrie's, don't have an alpha channel and that's how I set a backplate using CPU.

    Thank you for reading.

    Oh, VRay 3.1, of course.

Would it be possible to attach the scene file you have problems with ?

      Sorry, I have been behind.

Try this scene. Turn on Use Map in Environment under Rendering and hide the Dome Light.

But in retrospect, admittedly I am not sure I have been doing background images correctly. Could I get a copy of your scene to study?

Also, the VRay Plane doesn't seem to render GPU, either. Thank you.

Thank you, theedge. I didn't mean to miss that on the feature list. I downloaded a copy to keep next to me.
