Just wondering if this is likely to happen any time soon? I'm costing up some rendering capacity and need to decide whether to lean towards cpu or gpu in my limited budget. Since I now have a 12gb gpu option, literally the only thing stopping me diving into gpu rendering in a big way is lack of precomputed gi options.. I very rarely need or want BF in my animations. It's too slow, even with vray 3 and rt gpu. I can get faster rendertimes on a midrange workstation with imap .

I'm guessing it will be at least a couple of months - one of the developers is just starting to look into it. While it's not terribly difficult to implement this, it will still take some time to code and debug.

          Hi Vlado,
I know it's been only 3 weeks but I just wanted to know if this has progressed of not.
Do you think we would have a chance to see any alpha stage into the nightly soon?
I'm just guessing it will not make it for the SP?

          Cheers

There is nothing that you can use yet, unfortunately. It's too late for the next SP anyways, which has its fair share of GPU-related stuff that I'm hoping you'll like.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

              No worries Vlado,
              I'm sure I'll love it!

Hope it will make its way into the nightly anytime then

              Cheers

Yes, we have something working in a development branch, but it's not yet in any builds.

                  Best regards,

Ohhhh Vlado, that's so amazing news!

Do you think it would be possible to have some kind of notification as when this reach a nightly? Either here or by email?
I can't wait to get my hand on this, I feel like it will change everything, again

With win10 supporting the sharing of ram between video cards this might be viable?

Probably not... hardware is still a problem and until GPUs can really share memory with CPUs everything else is just software work-arounds.

So we need unified system ram rather than dedicated gpu / cpu ram? IE like the ps4?

Ideally. NVidia has this NVLink thing going on, but apparently it won't support Intel CPUs anytime soon. AMD was supposed to release something years ago for their CPU/GPUs, I think, but still no sight of it (except for processors with integrated CPU and GPU).

                            Best regards,

Don't want to be greedy, but, any news on IR on GPU?

It will be a bit longer until we get back to it.
