an idea:
similar in concept to a cross between the spherefade and the "use imap" tickbox in the materials.
a gizmo with fallof, that overrides the imap for all geometry within (with a falloff so any differences in lighting fade in) and uses BF instead.
in this case (using spherefade of similar) we usually have to do multiple passes and some pretty complex compositing, but a gizmo like this could allow mixed precalc/perframe gi in the same render, with proper gi interactions on the surrounding geometry, which we dont get with the "use imap" tickbox.
sounds complicated to implement, but just in case you guys need yet another feature to consider...?
